It is also a key precursor for synthesizing praseodymium cobaltates and praseodymium manganates, which are double perovskite oxides used in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). These materials exhibit excellent ionic and electronic conductivity at temperatures above 400°C.

Its unique f electron cloud structure enables praseodymium-doped materials to have long excited-state lifetimes and high luminous efficiency, which can be used to prepare optical temperature sensing materials, ultraviolet luminescent nanocomposites in photodynamic cancer treatment, and gas sensing films.
